Rebuilding Together Roanoke Announces Veteran Rebuilding Day, a Community Event
Roanoke, Virginia – Rebuilding Together Roanoke (RTR) will honor veterans and their families during Veteran Rebuilding Day on Saturday, November 9. Nearly 200 volunteers will join together across the Roanoke Valley to provide 13 low-income veterans and widows of veterans with critical home repairs, free of charge. Sponsors of the event include Housing Assistance Council and The Home Depot Foundation’s Rural Veteran Home Rehabilitation Initiative, Wells Fargo, Erie Insurance, Lowe’s, and the City of Roanoke.
During the event, projects will be completed in the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the Counties of Botetourt, Franklin, and Roanoke. All repairs will help to provide a warm, safe, dry, accessible, energy efficient, and healthy home for low-income veterans in need. Repair work will include roof replacements, kitchen and bath repairs, accessible home modifications, and major home safety repairs. Additionally, homeowners in Roanoke City will receive free smoke detectors thanks to the Roanoke City Fire Department.
Groups involved in the day of service include volunteers from Roanoke College, Virginia Tech, Erie Insurance, Bonsack Baptist, Allstate, Real Estate Investors Group, Lowe’s, First Baptist Church and veterans’ organizations such as the West Point Society and TAP’s Homeless Veteran Coalition.
